Feb 17th Event in Salem: The Catholic View on the Death Penalty

Catholics, people of faith, and the public in Marion and Polk counties are invited to a Simple and Delicious Soup Supper at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Salem on Saturday Feb 17th.

Sponsored by Oregonians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (OADP), this event will focus on Catholic teachings in regard to the American death penalty.

The keynote speaker will be Becky O'Neil McBrayer, a member of the OADP board of director and murder victim family member. Becky is an outspoken opponent of the death penalty in spite of the tragedy she and her family have endured. The program will be hosted by former Oregon Supreme Chief Justice Paul DeMuniz. Queen of Peace Pastor Father Tim Mockaitis will comment on Catholic teachings on the death penalty.

Dinner will begin following the Queen of Peace 5 PM Saturday mass, catered by prize-winning chef Elias Torres. Tickets are only $10 each. One or more eight-person table sponsorships are encouraged.

To repeal the Oregon death penalty, a vote of the people will be necessary. An important part in the removal of death penalties in six American states since 2005 has been the vigorous efforts of Catholics and people of faith in each of those states. It is now time to mobilize the faithful to promote the conversation among all voters to do the right thing and repeal the death penalty in Oregon.

Tickets can be purchased by phone at (503) 990-7060 or online at oadp.org. To secure 8-person table sponsorship for only $80, call (503) 990-7060 or buy online below.
